The beauty of the Andaman and Nicobar islands is second to none when it comes to beach destinations in India. The fact that it also holds a very significant place in Indian history further fuels the curiosity of many Indians and foreigners alike who want to see and experience the chain of islands — which in many ways, is much different from the India as we know — first hand. However, the fact that there’s not as much clarity about visiting the island chain as there is about most other parts of India makes it slightly tougher (and confusing) for many. I have been asked many a times, questions about visiting the Andaman Islands few of which, and their answers, I share below.
Pristine Beaches of Andaman – Radhanagar Beach, Havelock
Yesterday had been a wonderful day for both of us, we got our first glimpse of the magically beautiful under-water world (Scuba diving in Havelock) and the hangover is still there. Today we had the day to ourselves. We decided to explore Havelock on two wheels. After a fantastic brunch, again at Fat Martin’s cafe, we first headed to the famous Radhanagar beach, once awarded the cleanest Asian beach !
The ride from the resort to Radhanagar beach was as usual. green and brilliant!

After about an hour of so of wonderful ride surrounded by greenery, we finally reached the gate of Radhanagar beach.

After parking the vehicle at the gate, we decided to buy a hat for Ruchi as it was very bright and sunny.… continue reading
After I almost drowned about more than a decade ago (about which I have already written here: A New Life), I never went anywhere near any water-body. So much so that, there were many situations in the past decade where I should have been present but could not gather the courage to be, only because they somehow or the other, involved getting down in a water-body.
This fear had been with me since a long long time (not that its not there anymore, but not as much!!) when I finally decided to do something and get over it, one and for all.
Fast forward to year 2014.

As my marriage dates were being finalized, I was busy in finalizing our honeymoon destination. It was decided the destination has to be a beach destination (more on this here Honeymoon in Andaman & Nicobar Islands) and that’s when I saw an opportunity to get over my fear of water!!… continue reading
As we were already pretty hungry by the time we reached Havelock (Prev. post: Honeymoon in Havelock, Andaman & Nicobar Islands), we decided to quickly freshen-up and come out for our lunch. Within half an hour or so, hungry and tired, we reached Red Snapper, the in-house restaurant of our resort, The Wild Orchid.
Because it was already about 3.30-4 PM, I had a feeling that we might not get food at that time and sadly, that’s what actually it turned out to be. The manager informed us that the lunch time was over and the restaurant will re-open by 6 PM for dinner. However, he told us that there’s another good eatery next door. Yesss!!
In no time, we reached the Fat Martin’s Cafe he had suggested and it turned out to be a very nice place.… continue reading
After exploring part of Port-Blair yesterday we took our time today in getting-up today morning. Because our ferry was at 1.30 PM and not at 9 AM as we had preferred, we were in no hurry. We managed to leave the hotel by 11 AM. We had not had our breakfast yet so, after dropping the scooter back at the rental shop, we took an auto and headed to the clock tower. That place has some good places to eat and the plan was to have our brunch at the Gagan restaurant about which I have read a lot and then head to the Phoenix Jetty.
This restaurant is right in front of the Clock tower.

For our honeymoon, I had two options in mind. Lakshadweep and Havelock in Andaman & Nicobar islands. After the initial ‘research’, it was clear to me that Lakshadweep was too uncertain to be considered as a honeymoon destination and so, Havelock it was for us, with a little bit of Port-Blair thrown around!
Our tickets were for the early morning Air India flight from Chennai so we reached the airport at night itself. I had made sure we book take the left-side seats so that we get the beautiful view of the islands scattered in the ocean.… continue reading
After months of thinking to write about our honeymoon trip to the Andaman Islands I finally got over my laziness and decided to take it up. I figured it’s going to be a longish post so why not share a bit of Andamans, more of the Havelock island actually, in pictures before I actually start the writing bit 😉 .
I will be posting some of the photos in two sets and then, a detailed log will follow with some useful information that I hope, would be helpful for those planning to visit the Andamans.
