Built in the late nineteenth century near the banks of the Mula river, the grand Aga Khan Palace – one of India’s biggest historic landmarks, sat right at the top of my things to do in Pune list as I tried to explore the city over the weekend. I had explored the iconic Shaniwarwada yesterday, followed by the Raja Dinkar Kelkar museum. While the Shaniwarwada wowed me, I was super impressed by what lay inside the otherwise nondescript three-storey museum but more on that soon. For now, let’s talk about the Aga Khan Palace where I stopped by on my way to the airport.

For a change this time, I wanted to take thetrail tourists take when in this historic city of Maratha. It had been almost a decade since the last time I was in Pune. Back then I had come as a student and had neither the inclination nor the time and money to see Pune. So when I found myself in Pune again this time, I knew I had to make the best out of my couple of days here. I knew that I can’t really explore the city in two days so I thought, why not be a tourist and go see the top things to see in Pune!

The year was 2008, right after my final semester exams of my graduation when I first came to the city of Pune, the supposedly cooler cousin of the city of dreams, Mumbai.
I had written the Maharastra entrance examination for MCA admissions and had managed to secure a respectable rank in the first merit list itself. As per the next step of the process, I had to report to a college in Pune (the name of which I don’t remember anymore) for counselling.
So, once it was decided that I was going there, along-with couple of more guys who were called for the counselling, the next step was to look for accommodation for us in Pune.
