Adventure Hill-Stations India Kedarkanta Trekking Uttarakhand

Walking Up The Kedarkanta – In Pictures

There is nothing more that I love than being in the high Himalayas when it comes to travel. The Himalayas, every time I am in its laps, excites me like nothing else does. And at the same time, it calms me down like nothing else does. So it is not a surprise why I run to the mountains once every few months. Heck, it was one of the main reasons I moved to the North East after I quit my job. And guess what I did right after I moved back?

Walking Over Fresh Snow, To Juda Ka Talaab Camp – Kedarkanta Winter Trek

I headed back to the mighty Himalayas, on a winter trek to Kedarkanta! While a lot of people do Kedarkanta trek in December but I choose January. Because Kedarkanta trek in January is something else as compared to any other time of the year. It assures you of whitest of whites, and the freshest of it. And the views all around is literally heavenly.

Kedarkanta Winter Trek In January – In Photos

While it has already been close to a year since I went to the Kedarkanta trek, I have not written anything about it, except for the one post on gorgeous Himalayan Sunsets from Sankri. That is obviously not what I had intended to do though. In fact, I had planned to write a detailed travelogue about this trek. Documenting everything from the start of the trek in Dehradun to its end.

If only I always did things which I think I will do. Sigh!

Unlike our last trek in the Himalayas, the Hampta Pass trek, which was one of the best Himalayan treks I have ever been on, Kedarkanta lacs the diversity in colorBut it did not matter to me because, the color that Kedarkanta wears during the winters, is my favorite color when in the Himalayas. It is the best variety of white possible. I like to call it white gold!

And white gold is what I enjoyed the maximum. Thanks to the fresh snowfall few since the last couple of days and on my first night there, there was a continuous flurry of soft cottony snow, glistening under the bright morning sun. The feeling is hard to put into words, so I would not even attempt to.

The Early Mornings At Kedarkanta – Completely Snowed-out

It snowed through the night as we camped near the frozen Juda Ka Talaab after day one’s trek. While others were pissed-off because of the same, I somehow found myself wanting it to snow through the night. And snowed it did, much to my joy. The night was spent clearing the snow falling on our tents every half an hour but I was not complaining. Heck, I even went out of the tent couple of times, to feel it!

The Kedarkanta is one of those travel stories of mine I really want to write about. And now that I have started to write about, hopefully, I will be able to maintain this tempo.

Which was the most beautiful trek you have ever been on?
