Just like the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Sikkim, planning a trip to Mizoram also means fretting about applying for an Inner Line Permit for Mizoram. Thankfully though, the procedure to apply for an inner line permit for Mizoram is simple. And most importantly, it is way faster than the time taken to get an Arunachal Pradesh Inner Line Permit or Nagaland Inner Line permit takes. It takes less than a couple of hours! This Mizoram Inner Line Permit guide tells you all that you need to know.
How to get Mizoram Inner Line Permit
One can apply for the Mizoram Inner Line Permit (ILP) from Liaison Officer, Govt. of Mizoram from Kolkata, Silchar, Shillong, Guwahati or New Delhi office. I had applied from the Mizoram House Silchar located at the Silchar – Aizwal road, also commonly known as the Sonai road.
Govt. officials traveling to Mizoram don’t have to apply for an Inner Line Permit provided they carry a govt.-issued photo-id card with them while in Mizoram.
There are multiple ways to travel to Mizoram and so, there are multiple places too, from where you can obtain ILP. If you are traveling by road, you can also obtain an Inner Line Permit from the check-post at Vairangte, the border town. However, I have never tried getting an ILP from Vairangte so I cannot verify the information first hand.
If you are flying, you can also obtain ILP at the Lengpui Airport of Mizoram, from the Security Officer’s office.

A duly filled form along with the documents listed above and two copies of passport-sized photographs are to be submitted at the Liaison officer’s office. The ILP fee is also to be paid along with the form. You will be asked to return after a few hours to collect your Inner Line Permit.
How long does it take to get the Mizoram ILP?
As already mentioned above, it took less than an hour for the office to issue my ILP. At times of rush, this can take longer. So, it is suggested to apply for the permit during early office hours in order to receive it on the same day.

Dear Mr. Rajiv,
Thank you for the nice information. However, I have the below query :
Is my presence required to apply for the Mizoram or Nagaland Inner Line Permit (ILP) at the Liaison office, or it can also be done by a travel agent on my behalf, by submitting necessary documents. Kindly revert.

No, presence is not required for appying or collecting ILP for Nagaland or Mizoram.
