Singapore and Malaysia make for ideal international getaways from India for multiple reasons. While Singapore is a glitzy place with tall buildings and high-rises, Malaysia, much like India is a mix of ancient and modern. Both places have a lot to offer and are best visited together, on a week to a ten-day-long holiday. More so when you are travelling from India, which is quite near to both Malaysia and Singapore.
Singapore Malaysia Itinerary From India
Your itinerary to Singapore and Malaysia from India can cover various parts of the two countries based on your interests and this itinerary is just one of the many possible itineraries.
What To See In Singapore and Malaysia – An 8 Day Malaysia and Singapore Itinerary
Day 1
Kuala Lumpur is a historic city with a modern face. You will find glitzy high-rises and bustling streets and you will find quaint old lanes which almost immediately seems to take you to the time when the city was a British colony. Kuala Lumpur, if you ask me, is best visited on foot, for the most part.
Some of the places which you should not miss are:
- Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square).
- Visit the historic St. Mary’s Anglican Cathedral.
- Walk around the streets of Jalan Tun Perak.
- Explore Lebuh Ampang: Pre-war colonial buildings and Masjid Jamek.
- Chinatown at Petaling Street is nearby and an ideal place for some great food and shopping. Walking the Petaling Street is a must.
- Spend your evening at Bukit Bintang, the shopping, and entertainment district of Kuala Lumpur.
- You can also take the Free guided heritage walk (2 hours) organized by Tourism Office in the mornings.
Day 2
Located outside the city of Kuala Lumpur, the huge Batu caves are a must visit. Take a trip to the Batu Caves after a leisurely start and explore the place at your own pace.
Later in the day, head to the Menara KL or/and the Petronas Towers to have a look at the city from above.
You can also take the Free guided heritage walk in Kampung Baru.
**Don’t forget to book your tickets for Petronas Towers well in advance, the queue is always long. Add to that, you might also get some deal if you book online.
Day 3 & 4
Start your journey to arguably one of the most impressive parts of Malaysia, George Town – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While you can take a quick flight to Penang from Kuala Lumpur, I think the Komuter Train is a better option. Part because you get to see a lot of country-side Malaysia on your way to Butterworth (from where you need to take a ferry to the Penang Island) and part because of the distance from Kuala Lumpur city to its airport.
Once in Penang, you can spend today and tomorrow, exploring the following places:
- Explore Georgetown UNESCO Heritage Area.
- Pre-war colonial buildings.
- The famous street art of George Town.
- Clan Jetties at Weld Quay.
- Visit the Camera Museum.
- The 3D Interactive Art Museum.
- Take trishaw rides and explore the Armenian street, Little or, just wander around.
- Take a guided tour of The Blue Mansion – an 800-year-old Chinese House.
Day 5: Take a short flight to Melaka, yet another historic town of Malaysia. Once there, you can spend the time doing the following:
- A Famosa Portuguese Fort at St Paul’s Hill in Melaka. Visit the statue of St. Francis Xavier on the hill.
- Visit the Stadhuys, Christ Church, shops at Riverside, Little Chinatown on Jalan Bunga Raya.
- Walk the historic Jonker Street.
- Sit by the Melaka river flow and try to imagine the same place half a century ago.
- You can also take a river cruise on the Melaka River.
Day 6
Take a bus to Singapore. Once there and after you have settled down in your hotel, you can do the following:
- Walk around in the Marina Bay area.
- Visit Merlion for a customary picture.
- Watch the light show in Gardens By The Bay.
- Watch the light show at Marina Bay.
- Street food near Marina Bay.
Day 7
On your second day in Singapore, you can do the following:
- Go shopping on Orchard road or Bugis.
- Visit the bird park or Singapore zoo – the zoo here is pretty good.
- Vist Sentosa Island and experience the Universal studio (10 AM – 2 PM), the SEA Aquarium (4 PM – 6 PM), Wings of time (7:40 PM).
Day 8
On your day of departure, before heading to the airport, visit the following:
- Explore Little India.
- Explore and Shop in China Town.
- Walk in and around Arab street and sample mouthwatering delicacies.
- Leave for the airport.
